I'm just about to get my first glass greenhouse. I'm looking to get a heater but the problem is the greenhouse is on an allotment away from my house.

I was wondering if there was a solar panel that would generate enough energy to power a small heater than I could set to come on when the temperature got too low.

Does anyone have any helpful information? Does anyone know where to get a solar panel that would generate enough power for a heater?

Trouble is that the power/heat is generated when you don't need it.  You'd need battery storage or hot water storage.

In sunshine, the greenhouse generates heat directly & space given over to photovoltaic cells or other panels would only reduce the solar gain.

In short, you need heat when the sun isn't shining & hence electricity, paraffin or gas are the best options.  The last two can lead to problems with high humidity.

There was a thread in October/November time talking about putting a compost bin within the greenhouse over the cooler months, this would heat up in the day, and as stuff is composting would be a slight heat source overnight.  Might just keep a frost off if that's all your looking for, alternative get one of those cheapo greenhouses and build it within the greenhouse for an extra layer/double glazing effect.
