Is it safe to give your girls left over fruit from the start of wine ? So today I had lots of currants that had been fermenting for a week and once strained gave a few to the girls ! Is this ok

I wouldn't as I'm sure they would have problems with it.

I would think it was not suitable for your birds as it could continue fermenting in their digestive system and cause problems.
It is also illegal to give your birds anything that has come out of your kitchen, just in case you use your kitchen for your wine making or storing your fruit.

haha, poor lucy!
So would it be fine to give the chickens leftovers from pressed fruit (in the shed) before any fermentation? Thinking apples mainly as rhubard has been soaked in sugar and I doubt that much sugar is good for them?

Anything more than a small amount each would not be good, even if it were fresh apples. They do need all the nutrients in balance from layers pellets. A treat is fine but I think a lot of fruit would go straight through them, yuk!!
