Red Onions. White Rot
« on: July 25, 2013, 12:25 »
Hi all ! Thinking of giving up on onions next year, had loads of reds go to seed, Whites were fine, now most of  the reds have fallen over and are showing signs of White rot, again the Whites are fine.
Bought our Reds from Wilkos and our Whites from Suttons, could just say no more Wilkos onions but now there will be white rot all over the plot.
Just wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem.
The rest of our veg is fantastic so not growing onions next year means more of something else
Cheers Ian  8)

It could just mean that there was already white rot in the area where the reds were planted

I have tried onions, red or white, sets and seeds, in various places on my plot and have found just one small place which seems white rot free. I will not try to them grow anymore :(

Luckily it doesn't seem as active in winter and most of my leeks grow ok!
