Fox Deterants / Repellants
« on: July 20, 2013, 22:35 »
Hi,

Does any one have any experience of the ultrasonic fox repellants or fox deterants that are on the market.  If so can you recommend which ones.

I have a one acre paddock which backs on to open grassland / farmland and I live in a rural location.

Thanks  :)

I don't think that I would like to rely on that, if it was that easy to deter a fox there wouldn't be so many people reporting losses.

Male urine is no deterrant for either, only thing is good for is the compost heap.

We have both a large community of badgers and foxes and neither were bothered when we first got the plot, infact we suffered more damage when we tried it

A sturdy and i mean sturdy fence is all that will work

or an electric fence.

You can get 12v rechargable electric fences that recharge from the sun.  However the size of your field suggests, to me, that it is prohibative.  A fox can jump a 6 foot fence.  Hows about creating a secure run within the field?  It could be quite big and use a wire fence type frame.  Then put an electric fence around that.
Make it as big as you can afford.

The benefit of electric fencing is that it is movable so the field could be used a bit at a time, thereby ensuring that the grassland does not become poached. When starting with an electric poultry net it can help, apparently, to bait the fence with eg a sausage to ensure the foxes learn that the fence 'bites'.

An electric poultry fence (12 v) will not electrocute anyone, or the fox. :)
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted!!
