Flowerless Roses?
« on: June 25, 2013, 17:15 »
Hi all, 3 years ago, for Christmas, I was bought 3 pink climbing roses from homebase, I planted them at 3 corners of my pergola and waited for the abundance of pink roses the label promised....
First and second year, lots of growth, no buds, no signs of buds....
This year to my surprise there is 1 tiny white bud on one rose but nothing else...
There not in a great position but I have other roses in worse places and they have buds, there is ivy and honeysuckle also growing on the pergola, I have damp clay soil, First year I left them, year I cut them back in the autumn..
I'm constantly battling blackspot with my other roses, It has just started to appear on these climbing ones, I may consider some nasty chemical for it this year as burning the leaves and surrounding them with bark/stones/gravel isn't working for me.
Any ideas anyone? would be so nice to have my pink rose pergola....

Are you feeding them at all?

A nice application of sulphate of potash, or of tomato food, might stimulate flowering?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Just nip the top off of the shoots that are growing blind, sometimes this makes the next lot of buds break and form flowers.

I have one rose that does this quite a lot, so know how annoying it is  ::)
