Just in case you didn't know you only need to clip one wing so they will be unbalanced.  I have never had to do my hens but the turkeys needed them clipping every week.   ::)

I would also try walking around their run with the mealworms and don't give them any until they are following you like the Pied Piper.  Then you can extend this to them following you back to their home run.   ;)

Thanks, ANHBUC, I did know that - I think they could manage quite well, like paper aeroplanes, if the wings were symmetrical.  The Pied Piper thing is a good idea.

They will be following you round in no time  :)  Nothing quite speaks to a chicken like mealworms and they thrive on routine, so will soon be one ahead of you, waiting to be led from one run to the other ;)

Mine react if they see me take the bag out of the cupboard and are lined up by the back door as I emerge

Can't wait for the weekend to get them following me.  I daren't do it yet in case it all goes wrong and they escape and it gets dark and I can't get them back and I stay up all night and I lose them anyway.............

  We do worry about them but most of the time things go smoothly.  Keep us up to date on your progress.   :)

I'd agree that its not going to be as hard as you think to train them :D  Keep calm as if you flap, so will they - literally

You will be amazed how quickly they learn what that bag means  :)  If you want to have a back up plan of treats you can throw to get hens moving back towards you from a distance, grapes split in half are a good one  :)
