can u tell me wen i start pinching out the side shoots on my toms please they have not got any flowers yet

as soon as you see any - that is assuming your plants are cordon varieties rather than bush types

I have been pinching out the lower ones from when they first apeared, not touched any higher up ones yet, some might yet be trusses!

Iwas given some plants about a foot high. Just said they were cherry tomatoes. How do I tell whether they are cordon or bush?

If they're leaves, they won't be trusses. Trusses look like small flower buds as soon as they appear and come off the main stem not of the axil.
