Oh we know the one at Anton's Gowt Shamina, go there when desperate, but usually go to SAPS at Spalding when we are down that way as they are a bit cheaper, but at the moment, buying it by the tonne straight from the mill what with having the 300 pullets!!!  But their wheat and barley is still very expensive.

Well, they are hybrids, could be a warren or ISA brown or a goldline, but none of my goldlines are that pale.  Nearly all the hybrids now I've recently found out are bred by the same company, Hendricks genetics in Holland

But they should lay you loads of eggs shamina!!!

I've just had my first complaint from a neighbour today. he came to tell me that one of them had been in his garden. jude the paler one is a real explorer. I thanked him for telling me and left it at that but I dont think he was very happy. Is that really rude of me do you think. I dont want to upset the neighbours but nor do I want to stop them from roaming free. People dont come complaining when neighbours cats go in their gardens do they.

I think I'd complain if someone else's hens came into my garden.  They're like mini JCBs and can cause a lot of damage in a garden not designed for chickens.

How did she get into his garden  :?:

Stop up the holes in your fences and clip a wing to stop them flying over the top.

I'm with Aunty, I wouldn't be happy if I was your neighbour...maybe you could make it up to him by giving him some eggs (if yours are still laying).

If you make an effort to block up gaps in fencing etc that should be enough to restore neighbourly relations to normal.

Mine aren't free ranging because of that reason -- our fences/hedges are greyhound proof but definately not henproof and I woudn't like to think of them scratching about and pooing in our neighbours gardens.

Oooh it's REALLY easy, I did it a few weeks ago! I'll try and find the link, which has a picture to make it even easier....top tip would be to put a sock over the hen's head -- it really works and calms them down :D
