moth traps
« on: May 24, 2013, 14:02 »
I've never used moth traps before, and just wondered how effective they are.  I bought some for codling and plum fruit moths that you hang in the trees (plus some glue bands for good measure)   I discovered there is also a leek moth trap based on the same pheromone lure method.  Last year my leeks were close to total devastation so this year decided to give them a rest ... only to learn that the same moths can do just as much damage to other alliums such as onions and garlic - I would be heart broken if those are ruined as they are like THE most important vegetables I grow!!  (especially garlic, lots and lots (and lots) of garlic)

Anybody ever use moth traps before including the one for leek moths, and what kind of results did you get please?  :)  I appreciate there is a timing thing involved such as when eggs hatch, larvae pupate, moths emerge etc but just thinking about future crops as well

I've bought and used the codling moth trap on my plums !  (Titter ye not ).  Very succesful, once bought, keep it safe and you only need to buy a replacement mat next year.

Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !
