Raspberries turning yellow!!
« on: May 22, 2013, 21:06 »
hi,

I visited my allotment tonight and noticed that my raspberry are turning a yellow colour.

The shoots were green but now this yellow colour, could it be frost or do you think it might be a lack of fertilizer.

I did apply some general fertilizer a good month ago, do I do more?

thanks

If I remember rightly I was told in the past to give them Epsom salts. I could do with knowing too as mine look a bit yellow but only in one bed ?

Just hold on till someone either confirms or laughs at me

Mine were like this last week. I gave them a dose of epsom salts on the presumtiion that it was magnesium deficiency. They're looking much better now :D

Chemists sell it, I think.

Our allotment shop has it so you may find at similar shops if you have any locally.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

How about trying a garden centre?

Raspberries often show this when they begin to grow rapidly. Soon passes and they go green again, probably with or without Epsom salts.

I noticed friends who fed their plants only with fertilizers had this problem.... a lot! I give mine a slurry feed of rotted manure with water to soak it in fast. A spray with dissolved epsom salts and water will also help unlock some of the needed nutrients.

Over here we buy epsom salts cheaper at discount retailers like Costco, Walmart, etc. It's even cheaper if you can get a large (eg 25 lb ) bag of it from a farm supply or garden centre. Store it in a plastic tub with a lid so it doesn't cake or harden.
