 :(
Hi All,
I sowed 4 seeds of Thompson & Morgan FASOLD climbing bean  in each of 6 inch plastic pots. Compost was Bowers compost ( which i think is possible recyled ) purchased from Macro.
The compost is quite course.

The pots remained indoors and all looked great as every seed germinated bar one within 7 days.

It is now nearly two weeks since germination and the young plants are looking very sad.
The leaves are curling and becoming quite brittle, there are also yellow blotchings on the leaves.
During the last week i have stood them outdoors when temperatures have been reasonable and then bringing them indoors at nightfall.
Sorry i cant supply a photo .
In my opinion  it looks like a disease  or maybe a combination of disease and cold weather.
Your advice would be appreciated.
It looks as if i may have to start over again ... maybe wait until soil is warm and sow directly .
Is germination as good outdoors in good warm soil  conditions.
Regards
Stringy

Welcome, string..
It could be the cold wind causing your problem. I put my beans out for the first time yesterday but brought them in in the late afternoon.

I would say that the cold has got them .

I've sown mine in modules in the greenhouse ,and now they are in the coldframe with lid open on a mild day.

I sowed runners one year in the greenhouse and had a bad frost which did the same to them as your beans.

I would sow again but keep them sheltered till the weather warms up

Hi String2013  :)

Seed companies are not in the habit of pointing out any weaknesses of their products but reading between the lines on T&M's website Fasold are not particularly hardy, so my guess is that they're not ready for the great outdoors at the moment.

No need to sow in 6" pots - assuming you still have a fair number of seeds you could sow some more in smaller pots (or paper pots) and still do well.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Appreciate your quick replies.
I do believe i may have been a little hasty in trying to harden off the beans too quickly.

The yellow blotches puzzle me , could that be the cold winds ?   There are also very small yellow dots which appear within the leaf ..... could this be a virus of some sort, or maybe an infection from the compost ?

The Bowers multi purpose compost i used certainly appeared very course , i shall us a seed compost next time.

Anyway a lesson learnt and i will certainly re-sow.....
Thanks
Stringy
