I'm not really worried about frost as such, I do doubt we'll get any more in this area. But we will be getting sub 10 degree temps, which is a bit chilly for the more tender stuff, not cold enough to kill but possibly cold enough to make them sulk.

I'm in Swindon too, and I'd be very surprised if we don't have a light ground frost before the spring is out! It doed seem to get quite chilly around the Swindon area at night - sometimes I wonder if it's cold air coming of the hills around. Keep 'em covered, my tomatoes have been hardened off now but I'm leaving them indoors on the windowsill with the pathetic forecast temperatures.

I'm not actually in Swindon. I'm out to the southwest, a bit in the middle of nowhere. It's very sheltered in my garden, albeit more shaded than I'd like, because we're surrounded by big oak, ash, chestnut and willow.

In fact I unintentionally left a tray full of aubergine plants outside last night and they seemed fine this morning, no pale bits on the leaves or anything. They were up against the wall of the house so they would have been pretty sheltered there. But everything else is going to be chucked out in the tunnel today, and I'll keep an eye on the local forecast but all being well I want to start planting thing out the following week.

It's already down to 5c in my edge of Swindon town garden. I'm off out in a mo to cover up my spuds and salad leaves! There are some very chilly nights forecast on the met office 5 day outlook. A ground frost tonight is almost inevitable with clear skies!

The temp was dropping so quickly here, with clear skies, that I covered my early spuds over with polysheeting - rather than take a chance.

There are only a couple not earthed up on the plot - so they can take their chances. I'll do some more earthing up tomorrow.

I learned the hard way last year....in fact I'm tempted just to use my plot as an exercise tool, and just keep digging it over - not actually plant out any of my darling little baby plants out!
If all else fails, there's always cake.

Ooooh it's a tricky one!  I'm 'on call' this weekend with work and had the pleasure of being called out at 2.20am this morning.  It was blooming chilly and dank - 'orrible!  The temp gauge on my car read 7C.  I didn't see what it read on my return home at 4am  but it did feel less 'chilly'.  I live on the outskirts of Bristol - I won't be planting anything 'out' except peas and brassica's for a couple more weeks yet me thinks.

Tumbling tom flowers are opening now and one of the cucumbers have a open female flower (but no male to pollinate with...).

It went down to six C last night, was seven the night before and eight before that. It's going the wrong way!

The main problem is room, they're getting big.

Apart from the spuds..I've only put some Brassicas in I reckon they will be fine.

Rest will wait until June before they go in..although my toms and cucumbers are already in the greenhouse covered by Fleece and seem fine so far.

Yup, was a cold one this morning, and around this way I think tomorrow night will be cold too. A different weather front is moving in then, and the nighttime temps are rising. Into next week looks good. All toms are going in the cold greenhouse on Monday. And the corn, celery and beans will be going out too.
Have most brassicas, onions, leeks, peas, potatoes, out now, can't wait forever.
The weather is on the turn now.  ;)
