I think I just found one of these flies in my greenhouse. Like a house fly but with an orange body that is slightly furry. I'm sure it's not a carrot fly and I don't think it is an onion fly either, but I have no idea what it actually is. I squashed it with a finger flick anyway. I hope it wasn't a hover fly (but I don't think it was).

Yeah, I googled it and it could have been one of those.

I like to admire nature, not kill it because I don't like the look of it. Do you think that of people too ?

I am afraid I take the same approach to slugs, snails, caterpillars, aphids and spittlebugs (on my strawberries) too.

Think I would have sent it on it's way too. I hate doing away with slugs but let's be honest " what good do they do"
I used to love caterpillars before I tried to grow veg. 

That fly wasn't blessed with good looks was it
