Fuschia and buddleia question
« on: May 04, 2013, 14:13 »
Last year I had some plug plants of hardy fuschias and dwarf buddleias which I planted out. However they were quite small and Im worried that they might not have survived winter...when can I expect to see new growth from them??

I had a similar problem with hardy Fuschia which were planted last year - I began to think that the awful weather at the end of March had killed them. But no - they have survived - the leaves are just tiny buds at present but they are starting to develop. I would keep checking for a couple of weeks still - you might just be surprised.

kentishgal, could you add your location into your profile please, so we know whereabouts you are? It'll help with queries like this one.

(and yes, I know you could be somewhere in Kent, but Kentish folk can live anywhere, so I am not being specially dim today    )

If it helps, my hardy fuschias have new growth showing at about ground level now.

Buddleia have leafy shoots coming off the stems, about one to two inches across.

ok, just added my location......and yes!! It is Kent!LOL :D
Sounds like I have a few weeks yet to know wether they are going to grow then. The buddleia are about 4-6ins high and in a sunny spot so hopefully should be ok. The fuschias are barely more then a couple of a couple of ins of twig but I had a look and although the stems are dead near the top(as expected)  and snap they just bend near ground level so they do have some life in them!

Maybe I just need more patience. This is only the second year my garden has been planted....Rome wasnt built in a day!

It's very difficult to lose or kill buddleia!
I keep looking at my monster and wondering how I might make it go away sometimes!!
But then the birds like to sit in it, and it gets covered in peacock and painted lady butterflies and I think, no, it needs to stay! :D
