What to do with my Cuke's?
« on: May 04, 2013, 20:38 »
Evening All!  I've never grown cucumbers before so thought I'd give them a go this year.  I planted 3 seeds in a 5" pot, not thinking that they would all germinate.  Well, all three have come through.  What do I do now?  Can I wait until they've got a couple of true leaves and then pot them on individually? Or will they not appreciate that sort of disturbance?  Do I need to remove two of the seedlings and give one the best chance?  They are miniature white cuke's from the real seed co.  Cheers!

When they have a couple of true leaves just pot them up in their own pots.  Just remember that cucumbers are very suicidal and die for absolutely no reason so I would keep all three just in case.

Thanks! I've read on here ALL about cuke's being difficult which is why I've never tried them before.  I might plant some more seeds in their own pots, just in case.  Thanks for your help!

Lilacs is absolutely right!

Cuces germinate to die within three days!

Keep them all, plant them all, and if you have a glut in August, give me a call, as undoubtedly, ours will have either died or thrived..;0)

Lift two of them out carefully while they are small and pot them in their own pots. They will not mind the disturbance now.

The most tempremental stage is just after you have planted them out and given away any spare plants.

Like sheep, cucumbers spend their time thinking of new ways to die.

Thanks everyone!  I feel better now - They've been up for nearly a week so even if they keel over now I haven't done too badly!

Is it more ridge cucumbers or greenhouse cucumbers that like to die, or both?
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

They share the common gene.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
