I certainly meant it as a compliment, your post conveyed an interesting exicitement that lead me to believe that you would make a great gardener and poster.
Most people on this site mean well and do not expect any offence to be taken if you are treated as one of the gang even on your first postings.
In time you will no doubt pull our legs and we will just smile,  So understand no insult was being offered.

Hello lay_reb.

I wonder would it be worth asking the previous owner of your plot (when he/she arrives to retrieve the carrots, parsnips, leeks and spuds for winter stews) what was originally planned for the incoming year.

I know I'm always looking at my patches of earth and debating what will go where next.  So I'm sure some of that info is still floating around in the previous owner's head.

Perhaps you could offer some of next year's crop in exchange for the advice?  The past owner was obviously having some success and may enjoy seeing you keep the plot productive.  Do you know why he/she has given up?

Just thoughts of course.  It will all depend on individual personalities and circumstances...

Best wishes for the incoming year.  Last year was my first 'big' year and it has been so rewarding... some dramatic failures but also some wonderful successes! :)  (I had grown stuff on a smaller scale before - but never much.)
