I am now really nervous about breaking off the shoots when I go to plant - eek!

Don't be nervous. Just allow about 10 minutes to sow each seed.  Take tweezers and one of those eyeglass magnifying things that jewelers use and gently, gently, lay the seed on a bed of finely sieved compost.  Gently sieve some compost on it using a fine sieve.

Then after an hour:- chuck the whole *****  lot in the bin, and put a pinch of new seed from the packet every 8 inches like DD says. :D
Sometimes my plants grow despite, not because of, what I do to them.

I only set mine on kitchen paper a few days ago so I might have another 3 days to wait (!) but I'm planning on trying to float them off in a bowl of water when they do - I'll let you know just how cunning a plan that turns out to be!
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

the year before that I did Richy's paper pots and got a stonking crop - but I wanted this year to try the damp kitchen towel prechitting

If it wasn't broke, why did you want to try and fix it?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I transplanted about 15 richy potted parsnips at the weekend and 4 of them have been eaten by something already!!

Why do we bother!!?!!
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !
