Bare root raspberry canes
« on: April 12, 2013, 19:50 »
I have put in 20 raspberry canes from blackmoor and well they are just like twigs.

They were planted in Feb should they have some shoots or signs of life by now??

This is my first time with raspberries and I am an a newbie generally.

The normal check for plant's is to scrape away a piece of bark with your thumb nail to see if it is green underneath. This does not work with raspberrie's as the top growth may be dead but the root's are still alive. Leave till next year, if they are not showing sign's of life then dig em up.

My ones from Blackmoor that I put in in Feb are the same as well - glad it isn't only me! Mine are the autumn variety of polka. I was going to give it until the end of the month before I started getting worried....

The warmer weather will kick them into life. They are dormant in the cold - like me :)

Same for me with Polka. All my other newly planted fruit is moving though.
Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of knowing nothing than opening it and proving it.
