Well, for the inexperienced, like myself, this weather is causing us a few headaches. We have no experience to draw on and work out when to sow.

So....

What can I sow direct at the moment?

I am in South Wales.

Only my second year for me, but given last years lack of germination for a lot of seeds I sowed, I am throwing caution to the wind and putting seeds in like a crazy person. So far I have put in parsnips, beetroot, peas, kale, Brussels. Planted potatoes last week, onions, shallots the week before and garlic the week before that. This weekend I am sowing carrots, chard, radish, spinach. Squashes, courgettes etc sown indoors. I guess that if nothing germinates I might still have time to try again.

Kale and Brussels will be far more successful if sown in modules and then grow on in pots to give them a good root ball before planting out.

I haven't directly sown anything yet, but want to get a couple of rows of parsnips, carrots and beetroot in over the weekend if I can.

Like DD suggested, I have some brassicas coming along in modules, but they need to be a bit bigger before they go out.  I won't sow any beans or peas until later this month as they won't go out until end of May here.
