Just been out to shut the girls hen house and one of the ex batts had just laid this massive, slimy white thing.  What is it?  It was hard but didnt have a shell on it - just slime.  She had slime coming out of her aswell.  Do you think shes okay and do I need to do anything?

it sounds like she has laid a lash - this is part of her reproductive tract and most don't lay after this. You need to make sure her rear end is clean so that the others dont keep trying to get it and peck her.

Ah thats interesting.  It was alot bigger than that.  The size of a very large egg - much bigger than what they normally lay.  It is 9cm long.  But it looks like it has the same consistency as the picture.
