strawberry runners
« on: March 27, 2013, 14:45 »
I've just got 30 Elsanta runners; perhaps I might trouble you good people with a couple of questions;

how should they look - they have big healthy looking roots but few leaves? and

 How/where should I keep them until I put them out over the weekend? It's due to get to 6 degrees at some point so I reckon they'll be OK.

Thanks as ever,

Az

They sound fine. Keep the roots moist by wrapping in damp tissue paper.

Thanks - put them in this morning. Hopefully not too early - still a bit chilly but there's been no frost round here for a while so fingers crossed.

I've got some too, they're on the windowsill and I'm worried they'll get a shock when I finally plant them out - they've started growing a bit too enthusiastically! Does anyone recommend planting them on/through black plastic?

Get them out of the house immediately!! no jokes they don't want to be warm now they live for the cold and need it to flower and grow properly. Put them in a greenhouse or cold frame.

Yes I grow mine thru black plastic - I'll send you a PM with my blog link where you can see how I do it.

Oooops you cant receive PM's till you have more posts .... so.... Hint.... Take a look at my profile....
