frost and brassicas
« on: March 12, 2013, 09:49 »
I've got in my cold frame brassica seedlings and leeks in toilet roll tubes in my  cold frame, will they be ok
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

Brassicas are tolerant of frost.  I have lots of brassica seedlings in my unheated greenhouse and they look fine. Make sure they have some ventilation as they can cope with cold but not cold and damp

I've found with brassicas that they might look frosted but they seem to bounce back.

It's never a good idea to sow the whole packet of seeds. Always sow some and keep some in reserve for repeat sowings, in case of failures.

So glad that I didn't sow any seeds straight in the soil last week.  Phew! ::)

Thanks compost queen they do look a little frosted but so long as they'll be ok. Plenty more seeds left though
