Rose cuttings
« on: February 28, 2013, 09:41 »
Hi all,

My daughter brought me a lovely bunch of peach roses for my birthday and a couple of days ago the went over, I noticed a couple of leaf buds beginning to break so I have put cuttings in my propagator and they are sprouting nicely so I am hopeful that some of them will root.

My question is will they form a good  bush, or am I wasting my time?

There's no simple answer, sorry.

Some varieties grown for the florist trade aren't hardy enough for outside, and some roses don't grow very well on their own roots........There's only one way to find out  ;)

Always worth a try - one of my clients has 3 roses which were propagated by accident - she kept a flower arrangement outside so it would last longer and the roses rooted into the oasis! I potted them up in 2011 and planted them out last year and so far they are doing ok though two are much stronger than the third.

Thanks all,  four of them are looking very healthy with new growth, but are in the propagator.  I am putting in a cutting garden at the lotty so will put them out in the autumn and see what happens.
