I've just received a couple of Blackcurrant & Raspberry bushes I won on EBay. The roots have been wrapped in a polythene bag and they are quite damp.
Being a novice, I have no idea when I should plant them on the plot or what I should do before that! Can anybody help? Cheers

Plant them asap 
If you can't get them in at the weekend, put them in a pot with some compost round the roots so you can keep them damp, til you can plant them.

Even up here in Newcastle these plants are coming to life now. The sooner the better.

Dig in as much manure and/or compost as you can now.Prepairing the ground well now will pay dividens in years to come.If you can't get the time to prepare the ground well plant them in pots big enough to accomadate the roots and water them in makeing sure the compost has got right in between the roots(tapping the pot sharply usually works if the compost is quite dry).
