« on: February 15, 2013, 11:27 »
Can anyone tell me where I might be able to get lemon thyme seeds from? I can't seem to find any anywhere...

It's difficult to grow from seed, I found - but there are seeds here
http://www.nickys-nursery.co.uk/seeds/pages/page13.htm

would you be better of with young plants?

Hmm, maybe you're right. I'll get some plants then.  :)

National Trust garden shops are quite good for the more 'odd' herbs.
I bought lemon thyme 'Lorna Doone' at a Nat Trust shop and that lasted a few years.
You can often get into the shops without being a member. :)

Lemon thyme is worth growing as it's delicious. It grows very slowly and stays compact unlike common thyme which is straggly unless trimmed a bit.  I grew the common thyme from seed and it was dead easy so I reckon lemon would be no more tricky and deffo worth the effort

I've had my problems with lemon thyme and yet I can get parsley and lavender to start no problem.

yes, I agree ordinary thyme and purple thyme are easy - but lemon thyme certainly wasn't

I wonder what's different in the varieties to make the lemon harder to germinate. Hmm interesting. I shall have a swot up  :)

I find it just as cheap to buy a good plant and split it or get some off a friend

Yes but some of us are seed nuts and have to grow things from seed, or at least try to  :)

I've never tried lemon thyme but I did grow orange thyme from seed last year, and that came up like cress. I've never been very good at moderating the number of seeds I scatter in the pot :)
