Chitting
« on: February 17, 2013, 12:48 »
I intend to plant out my potatoes early April. Before that I need to chit them. So, although I realise you need about an inch of growth during chiiting, how long does this usually take, so that I know when to start the chitting process?

My intention is to chit them in egg boxes on a window shelf in the shed on the allotment. Does this idea seem fair enough to you, or have you got some suggestions?
I may be Welsh, but I love ewe anyway!

Start them now, don't worry about the chit length. The main aim is to break their dormancy.

A shed on the plot is a bit risky. One whiff of frost in there and you'll end up with a soggy, smelly mess.

They'll be far better off at home somewhere cool, but light.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
