for brassicas and carrots I use the scaffolding netting - slightly stretchy material and works a treat: I spoke to a local building firm nicely the year before last and they gave me "tons" of it. Not a thing gets through.

Have used enviromesh in the past too - great stuff but expensive

Is it fine enough for carrot fly then? Decided this year i must buy something as i never end up with a crop i can eat despite them being good sized. Grrrrrr @ Carrot Fly :tongue2:

definitely fine enough - the last few years I did a trial with enviromesh and also a row of carrots with this scaffolding netting and no difference whatsoever in terms of carrot fly getting in ie) both methods of covering worked.

A neighbouring plot moaned about the scaffolding netting as he got carrot fly - upon inspection he had not pinned the netting down at the edges, so flapping about is a real enticer for the dreaded carrot fly..

Great stuff and thanks for the info. Just need to find the best price for it now (Dont know any kind builders who will give me some unfortunately!!!)

Do you have any MacArthurs, Farmway, or Wallace of kelso shops/agents near you?

I got my fleece off Wallaces' 2 years ago, 2m x 100m for £20.

http://www.farmway.co.uk/

These maybe able to help, I hope:wub:

Have a look here www.wondermesh.co.uk
For a cut size 3.65mt x10mt they are £13.46 cheaper.

Looks good neal. Unfortunately, have already ordered my Veggiemesh... :(  Ordered samples of the WM16 and WM24 though (WM32 out of stock) so I have something for comparison for next time so thank you.  :)

My Wondermesh samples have arrived and the WM16 Wondermesh appears to be the same as the Veggiemesh, so thank you for that neal.
The Wondermesh is more specific about which pests may be controlled by which mesh size of netting i.e. WM16 = Veggiemesh, protects against Cabbage root fly and Carrot fly and whilst Veggiemesh claims to protect against 'cabbage root fly, carrot fly, cabbage white butterfly, pea moth, leek moth, cutworm, onion fly, cabbage whitefly, leaf miners and many species of aphids', the Wondermesh range (WM24,WM32,WM50) can help with Flea Beetle, Aphids and Thrips respectively.
Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a small sample of enviromesh, about 2 inches square? I can then get some idea as to whether they all 'appear' to be the same product and do a rough costing?
Many thanks,
Mags  :)

Hi all - old thread I know, but I thought I'd give it a bump.

I got a 10% discount code for Veggiemesh after I asked nicely, code is 5335

I was very tempted by the wondermesh as the price is good, but after you add on the VAT at checkout not quite as much difference. What swung it for me was that the veggiemesh came in a more convenient width (I have 4m wide beds).

For comparison at this years prices:
Wondermesh 3.65m x 10m = £36.77
Veggiemesh 4.2m x 10m = £47.69 (with 10% off code, inc. £2.49 delivery)

Works out at £1.01 per sq. metre for wondermesh, £1.13 for Veggiemesh
