Ok, I know you can freeze eggs but if I collected frozen eggs from the coop  ,can I use them once they have defrosted in the shell at room temp indoors?

How do you know they are frozen?

One of my quail eggs was frozen the other day and it had split the shell.  I gave it to my hens as germs could have got inside and once warmed up would spread quickly.

One shell was split so I know that was frozen, I have chucked that one. The others I don't know for sure but at least one was laid outside and so we missed it and it stayed outside overnight. Given the temperatures are in minus figures I just figured they would be frozen. Maybe they weren't. Anyway, if they were and I brought them inside can we eat them?

I think they should be, it would be if they had got too hot that you would have to worry.  It may have changed the consistency though.  You could always use them in baking or scrambled.   ;)

in the distant days when i bought eggs and stored them in the fridge, on the odd time the fridge was turned up too high the eggs nearest the back would sometimes get partially frozen.

I still used them in baking and we all lived to tell the tale. From what i can remember , i think the whites were a little more liquidy.
The shells were all in tact though. If any of the shells are damaged i definately would not use

My class did a science experiment and froze eggs. When frozen you could really clearly see a split in the shell but when it defrosted you couldn't see anything at all!!!!
You can safely freeze eggs yourself provided they are not in the shell but I think if you suspect they have been frozen outside it probably isn't worth the risk.
