Manure in bean trench?
« on: January 27, 2013, 19:46 »
Noticed a new delivery of manure at the lottie today so, as have dig out a bean trench, is it Ok to shove a load of the manure in and cover with soil?
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

Yes, as long as it's fairly well rotted

The blacker stuff rather than the light, straw coloured stuff?
I thought I might use it around the raspberry bushes / canes too?

I would have thought this would benefit the canes, but make sure the soil is not frozen or you may seal the cold into the soil with your layer of manure.  I would stack it nearby and add it once the soil starts warming up.

Good plan Angela. Thanks.
The soil is not frozen but is very wet so is quite cold. Won't matter with the bean trench tho as this is going to sit there for a while before it gets planted into.

I agree, your bean trench will be fine.  :)
