Hi every one ,what do l require to grow blueberries ,soil type (can this be mixed by myself) feed etc

I've just invested in and had delivered my first three Blueberry plants. I've not grown them before, but I have done a lot of reading and they definitely need ericaceous compost (acidic) to grow in best. So if your soil is not naturally acidic, it's best to grow in pots or some kind of lined trench, or take steps to lower your soil PH levels.

True about acidic soil, and also lots of nets - the birds love 'em!

We've got some in ericaceous pots, and also two on 'The Patch', again, with an ericaceous compost filling round them, with a load of old tea bags to boot...!

They look gorgeous in the autumn, so get a camera too!

Pine needles are an excellent mulch for blueberries. And your harvest will be increased if you grow more than one varieties

It's also better to avoid watering with tap water if possible as this dilutes the ericaceous properties of the compost faster than rain water

I agree with Jamrock about pine needles I remember watching something where they said if you mulch every year with a few good handfuls of pine needles this is all you need to do too keep the soil in good shape. I gues I you were planting a new bush you could shove a few handfuls in the hole too
