Nettle tea
« on: January 01, 2013, 23:24 »
I've managed to get hold of two water butts (100L each) and intend using them for brewing nettle / comfrey tea.
I've just take over a half plot that currently has nettles growing on it. Can I pick the leaves and stew them in a small amount of water for the next couple of months, then dilute it out and use as a feed or is it the wrong time of year to use the nettle leaves?
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

Hi the ideas right but from memory(not to good lol) you have to use the netle tea up quite quickly, i dont think it keeps that long, could be wrong someone will correct this if thats the case.Happy growning on your plot  :)
Give me a sense of humor, Lord,
Give me the grace to see a joke,
To get some humour out of life,
And pass it on to other folk.
Happy new year to you all xx

My method is to use a carrot sack, the ones you see at the side of the road full of pony carrots (£1.50), fill it with nettles / comfrey or a mix of both place it into the water and leave covered for a couple of months, just like a large tea bag.

Take the bag out and tip out into the compost bin, remove the tea into barrels and start another batch. Tend to do 3-4 baches a year

The tea from last year will still be OK for this year IMO
