Passion Flower = Passion Fruit??
« on: September 02, 2006, 17:49 »
About three years ago I planted a passion flower (passiflora) it did very little up to this year, when suddenly it grew very large, had loads of blooms and now has about 10 fruit the size of large hens eggs, just ripening.

Are these fruits passion fruits, as bought in supermarket for fruit salads and stuff?

Thanks
Ian

Assuming that you are referring to the normal blue passion flower P. caerulea, yes they are edible. Guess why nobody ever eats them?

They are just full of seeds and rather lacking in the juice department but they are not toxic..

Delicious! I love them! mine are coming to the end here in Spain. They will turn purple and drop off the vine when they are ready!
