Planning next years beds
« on: December 31, 2012, 15:15 »
Just sitting here listening to yet more rain come down, I started to plan my beds for next year and a question has popped up.  I have a bed with Japanese onions overwintering in them - can i plant anything in the bed straight after harvesting them?
Cheers from the armchair!

As you will be harvesting these around mid June, you could sow carrots (Autumn King 2 do well from a Jue planting) or beetroot, or plant out some winter cabbages.

Lettuces and other salad mixes are good too

Sounds a good idea Sunshineband - all that came to my mind was "water beds!"

(I think I need a little nap before planning anything.)

As always....

My allotment bed planning is oh so basic:
  • potatoes in a bed they haven't been in for two years
  • beans where they were last year - same for strawberries and sweet-peas
  • everything else fits around but not in the same place as last year
  • onions in a patch that hasn't been used for onions in the last 5 or more years if possible

After that......as the whim takes me.
