Locking system for greenhouse (not a key)
« on: January 13, 2013, 18:20 »
Hi  :)                                                                                                                                              I have just errected 8 * 6 polycarbonated greenhouse which suppose to be strong but I have the door facing west which is the only place I can place it and I am worried,  that the door is too flimsy and should have a form of locking system as well as a handle of some form
Any one got any ideas
Thanks

I have two greenhouses: a metal framed glass one with a sliding door, and a metal framed polycarb one at work, with a hinged door.

Neither lock, but the polycarb one has a simple turning handle on the outside which turns a lever or metal over behind the doorframe, and that's it.

Do you have absolutely nothing, just a swinging door?

I've got a similar one, but is two half doors that close in the middle - I stretch a bungy cord from the outside of one to the outside of the other, closes it up nicely.

you might be bale to do the same, run from one side of your door to the outside corner or similar.

best of luck

I had the same worry with my Aluminium framed glass greenhouse and fitted one of those kitchen cabinet type door catches from B & Q. It consists of a pair of spring loaded nylon rollers which catch a piece of bent steel strip. You need something with not too strong a grip as the door frame is weak and I was worried that it may not be up to the job, but ten years later it is still working. The only place strong enough to fix it to was the end of the top runner and I mounted it on a piece of sheet steel to keep the rain off.
