They do if you let them, but as long as its somewhere they feel safe and out of sight they will, but mine always used the nest box, as for a sparrow hawk, they can be a problem, but as long as the hen has somewhere to run to they should be fine, but there is safety in a crowd, more eyes watching out for trouble

Have you sorted out where they are coming from ?
It's all about the journey, not the destination

Ive got a mix of pekins and polands. Ill put some pics on. If anyone wants eggs for hatching they are very welcome. I have gold laced frizzle boy, gold laced straight feather boy both polands. Chamois hen poland.

In pekins I've got gold partridge hen & cock, black splash hen, cream frizzle hen, white hen, silver partridge hen.

Eggs are FOC, if you could just put towards the Post.

As to feathered legs-mine have got wet but not had any problems with them. I've always treated them with ivermectin every 3 mths or standard flea drops (frontline/similar). I did the same when I kept brahmas- as these were very prone to getting scaly leg disease being densly feathered on the legs.

Thanks - I'll hold those thoughts!  Enjoying my 'think about it' time (Pekin post).  From an internet browse I do seem to like the hens that look like hens (not strange bred effects like foot feathers, crests etc) but viewing live hens will tell me whats what.  Will never forget that lavendar Pekin - that little girl got me into all this!!!!!
