Has anybody read anything by Joy?

I have been told here books are amazing.

I have about 7 books already, so don't really want buy another and my wife'll think I'm mad, but are her books really good?

What make them different from your normal growing guide/books?

Also, what book would you advise.

Christmas is coming :)

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

I'd recommend this one

There's quite a bit about growing winter salads/oriental vegetables and advice for things for the hungry gap in early spring.

I always have her Grown Your Own Vegetables book to hand. You can borrow a copy from the library to see if you like it and then get someone to buy you one.  It has a lot of information in it, very detailed plot plans which are useful

Also I've got her Creative Veg Garden as I like the veg plot to look good as well as produce lots of veg, and this is full of good ideas

Don't forget you can buy the forum's main man's Veg growing month by month book from this very site  :)

Add my vote for the Grow Your Own Veg book. It is far more comprehensive than the majority of books. The Creative Vegetable Garden is on my wish list, as like Compostqueen I like things to look good too, and I have read that, that book is excellent. :)

I got her Grow your own vegetables from a 2nd hand stall not long since & have really enjoyed it although the print was rather small.

I've got Joy's 'vegetables for small gardens' and it has an amazing amount of useful stuff in it. Certainly a contender for my all-time top five gardening books (and I used to run a book shop)

Her 'Grow your own vegetables' book is a freebie sometimes from Marshalls.  It has a lot of detail, some pictures but none of the big glossy photos that are a waste of space IMO.

Just wanted to point out that Larkcom is the actual spelling of her surname (in case you missed it in Mumofstig's link). I agree 'Grow your own vegetables' is probably her best book for us allotmenteers.
I have just finished reading her memoir 'Just vegetating' - good title! - and really enjoyed it, though some of the articles are a bit horticultural rather than gardening.
As a retired librarian I've seen a lot of gardening books - but I still think hers are the most comprehensive.

I have grow your own veg which is in my opinion the best practical growing book and covers all the basic and more unusual stuff you would ever want to grow.

I also love the Creative veg garden cus I like my plot to look pretty too.
