Which way up?
« on: November 17, 2012, 18:00 »
I have just received an order of rhubarb crowns from Mr Fothergills (to supplement those I already have) to be planted in a nice new bed. However ......it's not obvious with a couple of the 'crowns' which way up I plant them.  ???
Some have white shoots that I presume are going to be the rhubarb spears so do i plant the crowns so the white shoots point upwards?
What an idiot I am  :(
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

You should see a rounded lump or lumps on the top, which are the shoots for next year waiting to grow and the bottom end will be more pointed if it is a slice off an old crown, or more dark brown fingers if it is a younger crown with roots.

If you can get pics on here of a side one shot of them, we can say plant as is or turn the other way up  :)
