winter spuds
« on: November 24, 2007, 13:15 »
OK so WEEED gave me some seed spuds end of the summer so I planted them (they were the kind that have been in cold storage and therefore meant for winter growth)  From a bakers dozen of seed spuds I today dug up 2 lbs 6and a half oz of spuds, ranging from the miniscule to the small.  4 plants did not grow at all, a couple of seeds produce 1 or 2 spuds, the rest a small hand full.  Below is the total amount sitting in my scales bucket.  so, judge for yourselves if its worth the time and effort (not to mention cost if seed spuds are bought).  Personally I'd go for a no, but the seed were free (to me!), the ground empty til my raspberries arrive and you never know they might yet taste spectacular!

Looks like quality rather than quantity to me. Very nice.  :D

So much to do, but so little time.

Couldn't keep them til Christmas, the frost had killed the foliage and it was very smelly, a better safe than sorry scenario really.  Will taste them with daughter and no 2 son when they return from their weekend breaks tomorrow.  Having a child free weekend!  bliss.
