A Grand Day Out!
« on: October 10, 2017, 16:27 »
Just back from town after a brilliant day out. Had my hair done, got new tips for my nails (that's another great story), bought a beautiful pair of shoes for best and two bottles of my favourite bath foam (my OH's festival presents to me), a new pair of slippers, two sets of M&S earrings, and got other necessary items en-route to the optician's. Two years overdue for an eye test (at least) and hadn't been there before but OH recommended him to me. Good job I went as I now know I need a cataract op in my left eye. I also have a massive scar from a viral conjunctivitis infection I got in the mid-seventies which gave him rather a shock and he wondered how I could actually see anything with it! Now I know why I keep tripping over things - I thought it was due to something else
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Sounds like your all sorted now for the next few months, shoes for tripping the light fantastic along with the earrings, slippers for when you’ve done dancing in said new shoes, smellies to take away the whiffs of the goose pen and even better your eyes sorted to see you into next year 😂

Cataract op is easy and amazing what it does for your sight.  I see better now than I have seen in my whole life till the op - just amazing what a perfect lens will do.  Go for it as soon as you can.

And I am sure you will think of another good reason for falling over your feet - misaligned little toes or something!   :nowink:

Nothing like a day in the shops to boost the morale is there!

Trouble is, we go to a decent supermarket for a small packet of Wensleydale (Gromit), and finish up with a whole car-boot-load...

Glad the peepers are going to get sorted though, Goosey.

Mrs Growster keeps on at me to get to the opticians - it's over three years since the last trip, and now you've mentioned cataracts, perhaps it's time...

However, the best reading glasses I have ever had have just cost me £7.99, and we need to pay for the septic tank service etc this month...

Nice one Snows! Good way to look at it! He said he couldn't do anything with my scarred right eye (never thought to mention a corneal transplant - must ask) and I have complex lenses for both eyes which makes my glasses very heavy to wear and also means I can't judge distances such as when I step down off the pavement onto the road because it all looks flat to me. An eye op will create a whole new world for me and can't wait. Growster - you get to the opticians toot-sweet as you won't smell too sweet if you fall in a full septic tank after a few libations will you!!

You’ll have to pop round &give him a rub down with your new bubbles & a copy of the sporting life or if that isn’t to hand windows for dummies....😂

The only bubbles he likes probably come from a bottle of champagne and all I can complement it with is a Rupert Bear annual. At least he could make a paper ball!

Actually, you could have been with us at lunchtime today, Goosey, as one of the GCs asked me exactly that, and I couldn't remember!

I also used to make a paper cat, which was a series of folds, and you eventually - literally - blew it up, and the ears unfolded up to make a great 3D version, which you could colour, but I just can't remember how to do it now...

And anyway, the champagne is actually a Pils Lager, and I'm going to get it now!

Just an update on my cataract. The rather curt NHS chappie said I didn't have one, my great and experienced optician was not best pleased to say the least so he got me a Nuffield appointment with a most charming specialist in that area and ... blow me down! I have one in each eye and that my left eye is very unusual because of its shape. I'm going back next week to make the final decision about what vision I want to achieve afterwards (i.e. distance or near) and which type of lens will be best. I'll let you know how I go on.

Hmm call me cynical but that’ll keep the waiting lists down for cataract operations ! Thanks

Your CYNICAL Snowdrops :D :D :D  See it ( no pun intended) ourselves a lot from our referrals although less so now than a few years ago. Blackpool now enlist Spire to do NHS work as well as the hospital but we still get them talking patients out of it!

I go to see Mr Moon at Vision Express in Lancaster whose had many years of experience. He and Mr Nadhili at the Nuffield have a lot of respect for each other, and as both have come to the same conclusion about my eyes, I'm confident in going ahead with it.
