Sunken patio so it can get *VERY* hot out there. Which wall would be best to position the cukes on N/S/E/W ? I was thinking east as this gets the morning sun but is shaded from 12ish.

Its my first time with cukes so Id like to try a few before I kill the plants

Contrary to popular thought, cukes don't really like full sun so morning sun with afternoon shade is best and they'll love it. In the 3 sisters plantings, the cukes were shaded by the tall corn, or courgettes if that's what was wanted.

I always plant mine on the east side of my bean frame so they can climb yet get some shade from afternoon sun.

i've found they prefer early sun then some shade but keep the roots damp!!!!!!!!!!

Not really a good year for trying things outside my comfort zone, next weeks temps are forecast to be half what they are at the moment.
