Top;s of peas
« on: May 09, 2009, 12:37 »
Someone please help......I ahd 20 feet of peas that were growing beautifully and about 2 foot high.  Something has had the tops of pretty much all of them.

Would this be pigeons or pheasants?  I've fenced the whole plot off and my carrots and parsnips have nod had their tops eaten.

Any ideas on how to stop this happening again?

i remember a few years ago. when we had probs with pigeons very early in the morning.
i used 3ft lengths of HAZ TAPE tied to the top of canes.these were moved around the plot to protect new plantings, seemed to solve the problem.

Pigeons will eat tops of peas until they're a certain size
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Using twine or Haz tape is quite expensive.  This year I have used some odd balls of knitting yarn (not wool) to criss cross my canes, it is quite strong,  sometimes tying an old DVD/CD disc on, (these twirl around in the wind).  Seems to be working very well

old vhs video tape works well.
Unravel it and tie it about the plot.
It makes a noise in the wind and reflects the light.....works better than anything else that i know about.
