Pruning a cordyline
« on: July 29, 2007, 08:36 »
We've got a large cordyline in our small front garden that is doing a bit too well. It's getting a bit tall at the expense of the base which is brown and has no leaves for the bottom 12 inches.
Am I able to prune it or restrict it's growth?

Thats not good. It's in front of our kitchen window in a bed about 1.5mx1.5m.
Is there no way you can keep them small?

hi si

shaun is right they dont like to be moved but on the other hand it is obviously planted in the wrong place so you are left with no choice but to move it,  i would do this before it gets to five foot tall as the roots ar a burger!!

cheers

Thanks for your help. Sadly then I think it'll have to go as I've got nowhere else for it.

I suppose I could replace it with a phormium as I love that sort of shape.

Phormiums have a height of 5 ft and spread of 5 ft.  Do you have the space for that  :?:

Should be ok. I think the bed must be about 4 -5 ft square. And so long as it doesn't get much taller than 5ft then the window shouldn't be too obscured.
