Potato problems
« on: May 20, 2009, 17:45 »
Can anyone help? I have a problem with some of my potatoes> It is the main crop, and doesn't affect all of them only the odd couple. What has happened is that the leaves are not opening, they remain all tight and bunched up on the end of their stalks. It would probably help if I posted a picture. Any ideas based on that crappy  description? Tatty

Before we go any further, have you manured the ground?
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

OMG!! I've not only infected my plot, I've shared it amongst fellow plot holders!! I feel so bad... they'll never talk to me again. I dont even have their phone number so that I can ring them and warn them!!

Found this thread as at weekend as I noticed that two of my spuds looked odd and a couple on neighbours plot - it does look like 'curse of the bad manure' but none of the others are affected and the rest are growing away like mad and some are starting to flower. I have used the same manure all over the beds last autumn and dug in in spring. What has happened to yours tattyanne? did you dig them up?

I have left them well alone at the moment. I dont want to dig them up then start spreading whatever it is all over the place. I thought that as it is pretty well contained at the mo I would leave well alone! I'm a little worried tho, cos the row next to it looks as if it might be going the same way!.

I know what you mean tattyanne it is worrying. Its odd that its just two on my plot in the middle of a row and I planted 80 seed potaoes. I think I'll leave be as well. So far the others are all ok  now I need to find some wood to touch. Next doors plot has a about 4 in one row but when I mentioned it to one of the committee they said no one else seemed to have the problem. Think its a plot visit tonight to check up on state of spuds!
