Carrot types
« on: January 08, 2012, 16:09 »
Hello - just having a quietly enjoyable Sunday leafing through the seed catalogues, but need your help - please could someone explain what the different carrot types are? Reference is repeatedly made to Nantes type, Paris market type, Amsterdam and others - what is the difference? Also, what's a good carrot to sow which matures really fast?

Thank you!

This should help, although it doesn't include "Paris", which are small and round in shape.

Early Nantes are a fast growing one as well as the above mentioned "Paris".

Well that's about as perfect an answer as you get! I didn't even KNOW there were so many types - thank you!

Try flakkee. They can be huge, and grow fast.

They are different varieties
You also have early and late carrots for different times of the season
Also, you have the stump carrot which is the short variety and Long pointed carrot which the only main variety used is New Red Intermediate
