Ordered Val and John's new book on Chutneys etc at 7.30 yesterday morning.
Delivered by Royal Mail at 9.45 this morning.
Couldn't ask for more.
Now to get cooking all that fruit in the freezer. 1st time trying jams and jellies. Wish me luck.

I too recieved my book in double quick time! Free postage and packing too! Excellent service.....Fab book too! Which recipe are you going to try first? I thought I might try the Cucumber and Apple Chutney but I like the Chilli Jam too..or the..... :D

Welllll....... I've got blackcurrants in the freezer, so a jelly seems to be the first thing to try, bit easier than jam and no topping and tailing of hundreds of blackcurrants. They were going to be supplemented by a lovely crop of redcurrants but yesterdays thunderstorms finished them off. (Knew I should have picked them when I had the chance)
Also got some blackberries from last year so will do something with them.
Got boatloads of garlic, so a pickle or bottling in vinegar is on the cards, and I'm hoping my 8 chilli plants will yield enough to try the chilli jam - thats a must to try!
I just keep flipping through the book and thinking "Must try that" so looks like a busy autumn.

Thanks for the kind comments. We do try and get things out asap. You should see the face on the staff in the local PO when we arrive with sacks. Anyone would think they didn't want the business!
Garlic will store pretty well in a cool dry place if you dry it out, btw. Our old garlic lasted until end April and the new was available from mid June

We're actually quite lucky in that the post box is just over the road so it's only when we get a rush with a new book that we have a problem as it only holds 28 books. :)

My book is fantastic ....had mine last week :tongue2:
The only problem is i've been ill for the last 10 days so not been able to do anything >:( but I have written down what i'm going to make...just got to do it now!!!!!
Ps if you havn't had Frugal living book yet GET IT!!..... the stress got to me????? That should say LOW COST LIVING book......... Yogurts and home made bread to name but a few!!!!

Yes, please buy Low Cost Living. I put my heart into it and it's not selling as well as I thought because it doesn't fit too easily into a niche.
I wanted to call it Self Sufficiency in the Suburbs but was over-ruled by the marketing people.

I really enjoyed Low Cost Living - got my OH to read the section on Bread - now he won't touch shop bought, Yogurt yum yum, got him to read the back of a yogurt pot, now we make our own.
It full of excellent ideas, I'll be buying a couple for Christmas Presents.

I'm suprised that the Low Cost Living book isn't flying off the "shelves" it's really good. Perhaps the people that need it most can't afford to buy any books at present? It's excellent value and I'm sure people would save back the cost quickly enough if the take the advice within.

Thanks - I'd hoped for better sales as well but it's a difficult book to categorise. Perhaps it's a slow starter ;)

Thankyou for my preserving book too. Came so quickly. Have made one lot of jam plum jam, following the book already, and now we have picked 27.5lbs more plums today, so will be making lots more :ohmy:
Love it, and can't wait for the apples to be ready so I can make the mint jelly I have been itching to make for years. :)

i ordered my copy of low cost living after reading your last comment, john, in the afternoon and it arrived the very next morning!
and even the post office keep saying that they can't guarantee delivery!
silly people.
should have more faith in their own system!

Generally we've no complaints about the postal system delivering. The pricing structure is mad but there you go.
Low Cost is creeping up but I think a re-title would be helpful
