growing tomatoes from seed link
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:18 »
Hi there

I do get confused over this leggy business!  I have some money maker and and black cherry on the window sill, they look identical to the end result on the guidance as below.  Are they not leggy now though as I thought the last picture looked leggy, but mine look the same too.  Anyway I was going to transplant them into their own pots now , after that final picture is that what would happen next, down to the leaves.  I feel I am hopeless at this, I really do think some people are just born to do this, I really wish I was wonderfully green fingered.   give me a spreadsheet and I can work wonders!

They are a bit leggy.

John say that due to the cold weather they had to be brought in from the greenhouse, (where they would have got better light).

He says this - unfortunately they do get drawn by the lower light level.

Can you post a picture of yours?

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I don't know what John did, or would have done, but those in the photo are not drastically leggy. Pot them up as deep as you can and get the foil out!

I have seen you mention foil many times.  I have looked on the internet on pics on how to place.  I have foil underneath the trays, then kind of a wall of foil opposing the window or have i misunderstood?  like this |_ (window ledge) U (plant ] (foil) |_U]

Looks about right.

These are some of mine, but for the photo I'd turned them away from the window.
