Welcome to the forums oldwill.  Pelleted seed sounds like a good idea if you're having problems sowing thinly enough no to need thinning the seedlings.  Let us know if you find some and how you get on  :D

get a little seed drill as well. saves any thinning for carrots, onions, lettuce ect.

For small seed I mix up some plain wallpaper paste. The stuff that not treated with chemicals. I then mix in the seed stirring well.
Then I put it in a piping bag and squeeze it along the drills.
Its fun and it makes the job so easy.

Another way is to buy seed tapes. They cost a bit more, but again are so easy to use and you have less need to thin out.

forget buying seed tapes ona cold winters evening get some newspapers and strip em into 1 inch jobbies .some wallpaper paste not the mould resistant stuff .just use a small paint brush to spot the glue on the paper n use another one to place the seeds,,,,,,let em dry roll em up n ur sorted for spring . also if you get newspaper and make tiny balls of it. about pea size   you can place bigger seeds in the paper balls  ,as they get soaked and rot they release the germinating seed   no i do have mates .i sw it on tv many years ago .blue peter and percy thrower i think.

In case you still want to buy them, Suttons do a lot of coated, stripped seed, but sand might be much cheaper, even if it does not grow

I remember the wallpaper paste trick I think it was also used with parsnip pregeminated on damp paper. If I'm right I first saw it on GW in the Geoff Hamilton days. To be honest I'm not even sure you can buy non-fungicidle wallpaperpaste these days Health and Safety an all that.  Would a thin flour paste work I wonder you know like a very sloppy batter mix

I did try this one year, unfortunately the seed and the flour mix became such a mess I could not control it.Perhaps my mix was too wet or dry.

I have two questions on the wallpaper paste idea.

1. doesn't the seed start germinating when it comes into contact with water?

2. why would a fungicide matter to non-organic types; would the seed not germinate happily anyhow since there is no herbicide involved?
