Egg in the earth
« on: July 30, 2007, 08:49 »
When I was turning over the soil in my tomato bed(blight!), and later digging up my potatoes this year, each time I found what looked like a birds egg. It was a couple of inches long, light brown with chocolate brown speckles on it. The first one I found, I assumed had been buried by a fox to eat later, but when I threw it onto the path it cracked and a little blood oozed out, so I assume it must have been still incubating. The second one (found on Saturday), I held for a moment and it got quite hot. I reburied it elsewhere. What are these eggs? Has anyone else had any?

If you get lots of men in radiation proof suits smashing your door down in the middle of the night, you'll know that they're probably only alien lifeforms that have been deposited here to take over the planet.

Whatever they hatch out to be, they can't possibly make a worse job of running planet earth than we do.

How many British snakes / lizards actually lay eggs though?  I figure that most give birth to live young.

Grass snakes lay eggs WG, but adders give birth to live young (viviparous) and slow worms gestate their eggs internally (ovo-viviparous).
Not sure about our lizards though.
