need help
 just starting out,
renting a plot in october after the council clear it for me
all for 20 quid a year,
where's the best place to buy vegetable seeds from?

Hi Jimbob, welcome to our lovely site.  Hope you spend many hours here with us.

I buy from EdwinTucker.com.  They are good prices, and sell LOADS of stuff.  But also, AlanRoman.com is really cheap, but they don't have as much variety.

Some of the seeds you get from cheap places like Wilko and Aldi etc can be just as successful.  Last year I got a packet of Sweetcorn seeds from our local Costcutter for 33p as it was the end of their season.  I had most of the seeds germinate and had over 15 lovely corn cobs.

So you have to look around.  Good luck with the plot.

There's a page of UK seed suppliers on this site and a link up with Dobies on the Allotment Shop.

I tend to use Thompson & Morgan, Dobies and Wilkos - depends what you are looking for. Some suppliers are better than others - germination rates etc. Oops - nearly forgot the organic catalogue.

Don't get  like a kid in a sweetshop and grab everything, start off by thinking what you want to grow, It's easy to end up with enough seeds to grow for the entire site! (I speak from experience)

 I like Dobbies too,i can spend a good few hours in there  (ha-ha-ha)..yes well i got to have my cup of tea there after all the walking around shop/flower bit

ditto, John, plus Suttons Seed, Seeds of Italy for veg depending on what she wants, and Chiltern Seeds for flowers.  (She also saves a lot of seed of the things she likes to grow).

Just worked out; Dobies is different from Dobbies!
Dobies; range of mail order garden products include flower and vegetable seeds, fruit, flowering plants for pots, patios and gardens.
Dobbies; chain of garden centres, predominantly in Scotland and North and West of England. :!:
