tomato problem- any thoughts?
« on: June 28, 2012, 15:05 »
Hi all,

I have 7 tomatos in the greenhouse, planted into two grow bags and one in a separate pot.  Planted about 2-3 weeks ago in the grow bags.  Before that they were in good sized pots.

Two of the tomatoes (next to each other- in same grow bag) have wilted leaves at the top.  The tips of the plants are completely floppy.  There are no other symptoms- no bugs, no brown patches and the stem is solid with no mould etc.  The roots look healthy (they are in pots with no bottoms in the grow bags so can lift the pot up to look without damaging them...)   The soil has not been overwatered but is damp to the touch.  They have been like this for about 4-5 days with no improvement.  The bottom leaves appear fine.

Any thoughts?  I'm thinking some sort of bacteria or fungus... worried if I should move them outside to spare the rest.

Were they in the greenhouse before?

What's the ventilation in your greenhouse like?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The green house is well ventilated- windows open, vents open and doors open.  I've been closing the door at night if cold.  Have been in there from day 1.

All very odd, still haven't picked up or died.  I'll try and take a pic tomorrow, it's not something i've seen or heard of before!

Actually, I've got one tomato plant like that in my polytunnel. I finally worked out it's because it's right next to the doorway and it's catching a bit of draught even when I've closed the door on colder nights.
